Akshardham Temple

One of the world's largest Hindu temples — intricate pink sandstone and white marble carving, built entirely without steel.

Overview

A Modern Masterpiece in Stone

Swaminarayan Akshardham, inaugurated in 2005, ranks among the largest comprehensive Hindu temples on earth — a monument built entirely from hand-carved pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble without any structural steel, following traditional Vastu Shastra principles at a scale rarely attempted in the modern era. The central monument features 234 ornately carved pillars, nine domes and over 20,000 carved figures of deities, saints and divine narratives.

Beyond the architectural spectacle, Akshardham serves as a major centre of the Swaminarayan Vaishnava tradition, with an exhibition on the life of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, a boat ride through 10,000 years of Indian history, and evening musical fountain shows that have made it one of Delhi's most visited attractions for pilgrims and tourists alike, drawing millions of visitors annually since its opening.
