Maa Adhya Katyayani Shakti Peetha — one of Asia's largest temple complexes, a sprawling marble sanctuary in the heart of the capital.
Chattarpur Temple, formally the Shri Adya Katyayani Shakti Peetha, sprawls across nearly 70 acres in South Delhi, making it one of the largest temple complexes in Asia. Built in stages from 1974 under the guidance of Baba Sant Nagpal Ji, the complex centres on the goddess Katyayani, a fierce warrior form of Devi described in the Devi Mahatmya, with the main sanctum surrounded by dozens of subsidiary shrines to other deities across its extensive marble courtyards.
The temple's scale and accessibility — open through the night during Navratri, when it becomes one of Delhi's most spectacular and crowded devotional sites — have made it a central pillar of Shakti worship for the capital's residents, alongside the older Kalkaji Temple nearby. The intricate marble architecture and continuous expansion of the complex over five decades reflect the temple's rapidly growing status within Delhi's religious landscape.
Chattarpur metro station (Yellow Line) is close to the temple complex in South Delhi.
Year-round; Navratri (twice yearly) is by far the most significant and crowded period.
The temple remains open very late, especially during Navratri — check current hours locally.
Kalkaji Temple and the Qutub Minar are both within reasonable distance for a South Delhi day.
