The largest and most visited temple in Goa — Shiva worshipped in a 450-year-old whitewashed complex distinctive to Konkani temple architecture.
Shri Mangueshi Temple, dedicated to a form of Shiva known as Mangesh, stands as the largest and most visited Hindu temple in Goa. Its distinctive whitewashed architecture, seven-storey deepastambha (lamp tower) and blend of Portuguese-influenced and traditional Konkani styles reflect the unique architectural synthesis that emerged across Goan temples built or rebuilt after communities relocated inland during the Portuguese colonial period's religious upheavals.
The temple's origins trace to before Portuguese rule, when the deity was worshipped at Cortalim before being moved to its present site at Priol to escape colonial-era temple destruction — a history shared by many of Goa's significant temples, each carrying within its present location a memory of displacement and resilience. Today Mangueshi remains the spiritual centre for a vast number of Goan Hindu families, with the temple's annual Jatra festival drawing enormous crowds.
Priol is roughly 22 km from Panaji, Goa's capital, via Ponda.

The temple's annual festival (check local calendar) draws devotees from across Goa.
Shri Shanta Durga Temple is close by, allowing both to be visited in one trip.
