Pilgrimage Sites in Jammu & Kashmir

Home to Vaishno Devi, the most visited goddess shrine in India, and the legendary Amarnath ice Shivalinga — Jammu & Kashmir is where Himalayan devotion reaches its most dramatic, snow-bound intensity.

Where Heaven Touches Earth

Jammu & Kashmir holds a unique place in India's sacred geography — the Trikuta Hills above Katra draw over eight million pilgrims a year to Vaishno Devi, making it one of the most-visited pilgrimage sites in the country, while the Amarnath Cave at 3,888 metres hosts a naturally forming ice Shivalinga that waxes and wanes with the lunar cycle, accessible only during a brief summer window.

Srinagar's ancient Shankaracharya Temple, perched above the Dal Lake, has watched over the Kashmir Valley since at least the 8th century. Together these sites make Jammu & Kashmir a pilgrimage destination defined by both extraordinary devotion and extraordinary terrain — temples reached only by trek, helicopter or genuine endurance.
